Prácticas de violencia en las relaciones de noviazgo en estudiantes del Instituto American College durante el período 2021 - 2022

Abstract

Violence in dating relationships among young people is a public health problem worldwide and affects the physical, psychological, sexual, and reproductive levels. These first relationships established in youth will decisively shape the relationships that will be established in the future. Consequently, this study aimed to determine the practices of violence in dating relationships of the students of the American College University Institute in Cuenca, Ecuador; period 2021 - 2022. A descriptive quantitative approach was carried out with a non-probabilistic intentional sample of 214 students from Paramedicine, Gerontology, Foreign Trade and International Marketing, Occupational Safety and Hygiene, Higher Technology in Tourism, and National Tourism Guide courses, who represent the entire population. The instruments used to respond to a sociodemographic survey of its own authorship makes it possible to know the characteristics of the students, in addition, the Violence Between Dating Questionnaire (CUVINO) was applied, which addresses eight types of violence. It was identified that 12.9% of students have never suffered any type of violence in their dating relationships; while 87.1% have been victims of at least one type of violence during their dating relationships. It is concluded that various types of violence are present in the educational community, presenting violent practices in all social areas. However, coercion, detachment, humiliation, and emotional punishment are the ones that stand out most frequently according to certain sociodemographic conditions of gender, age, race, socioeconomic level, origin, number of couples, and types of families. This study provides empirical evidence that allows the early identification of violent practices in dating relationships, with this, it is intended to promote the establishment of healthy affective bonds.
